How to Create a Treasure Map/Vision Board

What is a Vision Board and or Treasure Map?

A vision board (also called a Treasure Map) a is typically a poster board on which you paste or collage images that you’ve remove or cut out from various magazines. It’s simple.

The idea behind this is that when you surround yourself with images of who you want to become, what you want to have, where you want to live, or where you want to vacation, your life changes to match those images and those desires.

Teasure Maps/Vision boards do the same thing as short term and long term goal planning. They add clarity to your desires, and feeling to your visions.

There are several methods you can use for creating your treasure map/vision board. You can choose which one works best for you, depending on where you find yourself on this path of creating your life.

Supplies you’ll need for creating a Treasure Map/Vision Board:

Poster board and or Brown Paper(Target/Staples sells a really nice matte finish board. We highly recommend it.)

- A big stack of different magazines. (You can get them at libraries, hair salons, dentist offices or your personal collection and you asked your friends or family members). Make sure you find lots of different types. If you limit your options, you’ll lose interest after a while. Recommended magazines bring plenty of...Oprah, Real Simple, Natural Home, Yoga Journal, Dwell, Better Homes and Gardens, Architecture Digest, The Economist, Parenting, Money, Black Enterprise, Ebony, Essence, Business Week, etc.

- Glue. Not Elmers. (It makes the pages ripple.) We recommend Glue or Rubber cement. Glue sticks are our second choice because they don’t last.

Before you begin your vision board:

A little ritual before you begin your vision board. Sit quietly and set the intent. With lots of kindness and openness, ask yourself what it is you want. Maybe one word will be the answer. Maybe images will come into your head. Just take a moment to be with that. This process makes it a deeper experience. It gives a chance for your ego to step aside just a little, so that you can more clearly create your vision.

Put on soft music. Our favorite music for activities like this is music that inspires your soul.

The Five Steps of Creating a Treasure Map/Vision Board:

Step 1: Go through your magazines and cut or remove the images from them. No gluing yet! Just let yourself have lots of fun looking through magazines and pulling out pictures or words or headlines that inspire you. Have fun with it. Seperate the pictures images and phrases and words.

Step 2: Go through the images and begin to lay your favorites on the board. Eliminate any images that no longer feel right. This step is where your intuition comes in. As you lay the pictures on the board, you’ll get a sense how the board should be laid out. For instance, you might assign a theme to each corner of the board. Health, Job, Spirituality, Relationships, for instance. Or it may just be that the images want to go all over the place. Or you might want to fold the board into a book that tells a story.

Step 3: Glue everything onto the board. Add writing if you want. You can paint on it, or write words with markers.

Step 4: (optional, but powerful) Leave space in the very center of the treasure map/vision board for a fantastic photo of yourself where you look radiant and happy. Paste yourself in the center of your board.

Step 5: Hang your vision board in a place where you will see it often.

Thank you

Peace and Grace,

We would like to thank everyone who came out to the first Sistars event of the year. The event was a huge success. Despite the snowy streets the day was beautiful and sunny and the atmosphere filled with light. Those that braved the weather watched "The Secret" and shared ideas about what Sistars could be about. We exchanged the things we were most thankful for and even got some great info on where to go to dance to burn some of the calories we put on after eating those most delicious buffalo wings. (Oh yeah, we plan to go dancing on a regular).
We were reminded that there are many benefits to having a strong network of friends and how being American and a part of this digital age often removes us from opportunities to communicate to each other about things that matter most. We hope to find ways we can work together to support one another in the attainment of our goals or just to enjoy a sunny Saturday at the shopping mall. It really is all about love ultimately and we hope that you will join us at our next Sistars circle gathering to share in some of that.

We will be sending an Evite with details for the next event, which will take place in about 15-30 days or so. Bring a friend, your mom, a sister or a daughter.
Until then,

Sistars
